RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Monday that the team had recalled forward Phil Di Giuseppe from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL), and placed center Jordan Staal on injured reserve (IR) after suffering a concussion during the team’s 3-2 win against Florida on Sunday.

Di Giuseppe, 23, is in his second NHL season and played in 11 of Carolina’s 13 games before being assigned to Charlotte on Nov. 11.

During his time with Charlotte, Di Giuseppe scored two goals and earned five assists (7 points) in eight games and led the Checkers in assists and points accordingly.

Staal played only four shifts, a total of 2:54 in playing time, registering one hit during the opening period against the Panthers.

He never returned for the remainder of that game (after the 9:44 mark) and was eventually diagnosed with a concussion as announced by the team the following day.
