CARY, NC – Rod Pampling finished what he started at the 2023 SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club on Sunday.
The 54-year old Australian posted a 5-under par 67 and became the third player to go wire-to-wire – 66-68-67-201 (-15) – in the 23-year history of the SAS Championship since two-time winner Russ Cochran did it to win in 2010 and 2013.
Staying the course
“A great ball-striking day, all week I should say, and just putting was well, everything was just nice. So, it’s a great feeling to win again, that’s for sure. It’s awesome,” Pampling said greenside afterwards.
“I just stayed patient you know, I just just walked as slow as I could just to keep things in check, and didn’t rush with anything. So yeah, it was a long day. But you know, we expected coming in, obviously we knew we were going to be in for it. So you just eat the food and take your time, and thankfully it wasn’t too, too quick out there, so we could move slowly.”
