What they said:

Hurricanes Rod Brind’Amour on the late rally in the third period:

“We just dug ourselves too much of a hole. And then we finally got going, it started looking a little better, and (we) obviously crawled back in the game, gave us a chance to possibly tie it up there. I credit the guys for at least realizing we weren’t going well, and they figured a way to try to get back into it.”

Brind’Amour on his team chasing the lead:

“Once you get down, you start kind of opening up. And that’s not good for us when you have a team like that; there’s a lot of guys that can really fly, and then they just got the lead even more. When we finally decided to play the way we got it,  we  kind  of  got  it, ( where we)  made  a  game  of  it,  but  it was  too  (much).  You  give them  too  many  goals, that’s  not  gonna  work.”

Hurricanes forward Martin Necas on falling behind early and need for team defense improvement:

“Yeah,  I  mean,  it’s  just  the  beginning  of  the  season,  but  we’ve  been  giving (the puck) away  too  much  these  games,  and  usually  when  you  play  against  us,  or  these last  couple  of  seasons,  it’s  hard  to  create  some  chances (against us). We  always  play  good  defense,  but  so  far  it’s  been  kind  of,  you  know,  not  great – too  many  odd-man rushes. Today, in the first period, we didn’t help Raants at all. And then, you know, after 3-0, (it was) tough to come back. I mean, we still could have came back, but we got to start better than that.

“Tough loss today, but we got something to build upon,  and  we  got  to  learn  from  those  mistakes  that  we  made.   Just  play  better  defense.”
