CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the second time this season, North Carolina Tar Heels guard Allisha Gray was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference earlier in the week on Monday.
Gray helped to lead the Tar Heels to a 3-0 record last week, including a 74-66 victory over the previously unbeaten and then-No. 10-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks during a neutral-site matchup in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Averaging a team-leading 15.3 points per game throughout the week, Gray also contributed 4.7 rebounds and shot 57.1 percent (16-of-28) from the field and 58.3 percent from beyond the arc (7-12).
During a school record 124-point team performance against New Orleans, Gray shared game-high scoring honors with teammate Diamond DeShields as both freshmen finished with 20 points as Gray finished 8-of-11 shooting from the field, including converting 4-of-6 attempts from three-point range.
Gray tallied 12 points against the Gamecocks and capped off her impressive week last Saturday with 14 points and eight rebounds against High Point as the Tar Heels averaged 100.3 points in their three victories.
Gray’s honor was North Carolina’s fourth Rookie of the Week selection this season.
