CARY, N.C. – The Carolina RailHawks announced on Friday the acquisition of defender Kwame Watson-Siriboe on loan from MLS expansion side New York City FC.

“We are delighted to add a player with Kwame’s experience at this point of the season,” RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke said.

“We want to thank New York City FC for making this deal happen, and we look forward to Kwame helping us reach our goals and win the championship.”

Watson-Siriboe was acquired by New York City FC in a trade from Real Salt Lake on Aug. 11.

The 28-year old California native who graduated from the University of Connecticut made 19 total appearances for Real in 2012-13.

He suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in June 2013 and missed the remainder of the 2013 MLS season.

Selected in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire after earning First Team All-Big East honors with the Huskies, the addition of Watson-Siriboe is intended to give the RailHawks added depth in the back line.

The RailHawks currently sit in sixth place in the NASL combined standings, two points behind the fourth-place Tampa Bay Rowdies, and they continue to fight for the chance to earn a spot in post-season play.

With 11 matches remaining in the Fall season, the RailHawks travel to Florida on Saturday to face the Rowdies before returning home to host the Atlanta Silverbacks on Aug. 30.
