CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The 11th-ranked Duke Blue Devils posted an easy 71-45 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers at John Paul Jones Arena on Thursday.
Rebecca Greenwell posted 22 points and broke the Duke freshman record for three-pointers made in a season as Duke won its sixth consecutive contest and improved to 19-6 on the season and 10-2 in ACC play.
Greenwell sank a game-high four three-pointers while senior Ka’lia Johnson collected 11 points to go along with Azurá Stevens’ double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds).
The Blue Devils outrebounded the Cavaliers by a 42-25 margin and shot 44 percent from the field (26-of-59).
An early seven points from Greenwell propelled the Blue Devils to an 11-4 advantage five minutes into it.
Stevens and Elizabeth Williams (9 points, 8 rebounds) joined Greenwell in extending the lead into double digits.
Aided by several Virginia turnovers, Duke rattled off nine unanswered points and held the Cavaliers scoreless for over four minutes late in the half.
Stevens led the Blue Devils’ attack on the boards, pulling down eight first-half rebounds.
Duke took a 40-21 lead into the locker room at the intermission, while shooting 48 percent from the field, scoring 14 points off of Virginia turnovers.
Greenwell kicked off the second half with a quick five points, including her second three-pointer, to give the Blue Devils their largest lead at 22.
Virginia closed out the contest on a 15-13 run, but it was not enough to overcome the 30-point deficit.
Kendall Cooper added eight points and eight boards, while junior Mercedes Riggs came off the bench to drop a pair of long-range baskets for the Blue Devils.
Sarah Imovbioh led the Cavaliers with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Duke continues its current four-game road stretch when it travels to South Bend on Monday to face the No. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
