RALEIGH, N.C – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Monday an agreement of terms with right winger Justin Shugg.
The one-year, two-way contract will pay Shugg $600,000 at the National Hockey League (NHL) level, or $70,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level for the 2014-15 season.
Selected by the Hurricanes in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Shugg completed the 2013-2014 season with the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL where he set career highs in games played (75), goals (16), assists (22) and points (38), and ranked tied for fourth on the team in goals scored.
Shugg has totaled 28 goals and 44 assists (72 points) in 147 career AHL games played with Charlotte as part of three professional seasons which have also included 15 regular-season and 11 playoff games at the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) level with the Florida Everblades where he was part of winning the team’s first Kelly Cup as ECHL champions in 2012.
Prior to turning professional, Shugg spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with Oshawa, Windsor and St. Michael’s, helping Windsor win back-to-back Memorial Cup championships in 2009 and 2010 and reaching the Memorial Cup championship game with St. Michael’s in 2011.
