DURHAM, N.C. – Following a 15-7 victory over then ninth-ranked Loyola last Saturday and a 13-6 victory over Jacksonville on Monday, the 13th-ranked Duke Blue Devils continued to be duly recognized for their efforts.

Days after being named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, senior goalkeeper Danny Fowler was also voted the USILA/BSN Division I Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Greyhounds.

Fowler made a season-high 14 stops as part of a defensive effort that limited Loyola to just six goals and one assist during his 58 minutes of playing time.

For the year, Fowler possesses an 8.46 goals-against average, a .542 save percentage and a 5-2 overall record.

Along with Fowler, Jack Bruckner, Duke’s second leading scorer, was recognized as ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

Bruckner fueled Duke’s offensive surge in the second and third quarters against the Greyhounds as he finished with four goals and an assist, scoring three of the four goals that helped put Duke ahead 11‐4.

Following Monday’s win over Jacksonville, Bruckner has 20 goals and 10 assists for 30 points on the season.

With the win over the Dolphins, head coach John Danowski made history in posting his 376th career win, a new NCAA Division I mark for all-time wins, a recognition previously held by former Virginia head coach Dom Starsia.

Coaching in his 563rd career game overall and 205th at Duke, Danowski climbed atop the Division I coaching records list with the victory.

“This win is the next one for this particular team,” said Danowski.

“Every season is a journey. Every season is a lot of fun so this particular win is just the next one for our team.”

Danowski, on pace to become the first Division I head coach to reach 400 career victories, picked up his 157th win at Duke and his sixth this season as the Blue Devils improved to 6-2.

In his 35th season of coaching overall, Danowski started his coaching career at LIU Post in 1983 where he compiled 27 wins.

He was tabbed the Hofstra head coach in 1986 and coached the Pride to 192 wins before taking the reins at Duke in 2006.

To date, he’s elevated the Blue Devils to new heights, amassing 157 wins, seven ACC regular season titles, four ACC Tournament titles, eight straight appearances in the NCAA semifinals, four in the NCAA title game and ultimately the 2010, 2013 and 2014 national championship titles.

“I’ve been coaching for a while, that’s all,” said Danowski.

“I think any of us who get to this point in their careers know that none of it is done by yourself. It’s a tribute to all of the coaches and staff that you’ve worked with and all the student-athletes it’s been your honor to serve.”
