DURHAM, N.C. –  The Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball team will not have junior guard Alexis Jones returning next season as announced by the program on Monday.

Jones expressed her intention to transfer in order to be closer to home.

“I would like to thank Coach P for the opportunity to attend Duke University,” Jones said.

“Due to injuries, I feel the need to be closer to my family.”

The 5-foot-8-inch guard suffered a torn ACL at Notre Dame last February and had surgery on her left knee soon after, missing the final seven games of the season.

A native of Irving, Texas, Jones competed in 64 games over two years with the Blue Devils and posted averages of 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

“We are very sad to see Alexis go because we love her and her family,” Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie stated.

“Given her significant surgeries and her chance to redshirt this year, we support her with this decision.  We wish her the best as she heads home.”
