ACC/Staff Reports
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest all posted First Round wins at the 2024 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament at Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday.
Eagles take flight
As the 13th seed, Boston College posted an 85-72 win over 12th-seeded Clemson in the opening game of the day.
The Eagles now carry a three-game winning streak into Thursday’s late-morning game against fifth seeded Louisville.
The Eagles dropped an 88-60 decision to the Cardinals during the regular-season.
3-point stingers
Trailing by a point with just less than six minutes remaining, 10th-seeded Georgia Tech used its perimeter shooting from beyond the arc to pull away from the 15th-seeded Pitt Panthers to earn a 73-60 win in Game Two.
The Yellow Jackets (17-14) will face No. 7 seed Duke (19-10) on Thursday.
Duke won the two teams’ regular season matchup by an 84-46 margin at Cameron Indoor Stadium back on Jan. 14.
Demon Deacons post overwhelming comeback win
The No. 14 seeded Demon Deacons stunned the 11th-seeded Cavaliers with an offensive output that netted a 58-55 win in the final game of First Round play.
Trailing by 11 points, 46-35, Wake Forest outscored Virginia by a 23-9 margin in the final quarter and earned a spot to tip off against No. 6 seed Florida State in the final game slot in Round Two play on Thursday night.
The Demon Deacons seek to post their first win over the Seminoles this season.
FSU won both regular season meetings – a 73-61 finish at home to ring in the New Year, and a 71-63 win in Winston-Salem most recently on Feb. 22.
