OTTAWA, ONTARIO – The Carolina RailHawks played to a 2-2 draw with Ottawa Fury FC in front of 5,269 in attendance at TD Place Stadium on Sunday.
After falling 2-0 at home to the Atlanta Silverbacks last weekend, Carolina sought to earn three points on the road to stay in the mix for the upcoming NASL playoffs.
Goals from midfielders Danny Barrera and Ty Shipalane, in the 61st and 64th minutes respectively, gave the RailHawks the lead after trailing 1-0 at halftime.
Carolina (3W-1T-6L, 10 pts) held onto its 2-1 lead heading into extra time, but the Fury (1W-3T-5L, 6pts) managed to score seconds before the final whistle ended the third match between the two sides as a draw.
Previously, the teams traded shutouts on their home pitches as the RailHawks posted a 3-0 win on July 26 at WakeMed Soccer Park while the Fury blanked Carolina 4-0 in Ottawa back on Apr. 27.
Coming into the game, the RailHawks were two points away from the fourth spot they need to occupy to qualify for the league’s Championship weekend.
Leaving Ottawa, they didn’t get any closer, and still sit in sixth place, now with 24 points in the NASL Combined Standings.
Carolina returns home to host the first-place San Antonio Scorpions on Saturday.
