CARY, N.C. – As the U.S. Women’s national soccer team warms up to face Switzerland in an international friendly at WakeMed Soccer Park on Wednesday, starting goalkeeper Hope Solo is on the verge of making history.

Solo currently sits with 71 career shutouts in 152 games played with the national team and a shutout win over the Swiss would boost her past Brina Scurry’s record set over 173 games established from 1994-2008.

Eleven of her shutout wins have come in world championship play – five in FIFA Women’s World Cup and six during Olympic competition.

Almost 60 percent of her shutouts, 42 of them, have come in tournament play including World Championship, World Cup and Olympic qualifying and elite tournament play.

In 2014, Solo has started and played in 10 games for the USWNT and owns a 6-2-2 record with four shutouts and eight goals allowed as the team continues its preparation for the upcoming 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Canada.
