RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Thursday that the team had agreed to terms with defenseman Michal Jordan on a one-year contract that will pay him $625,000 for the 2015-16 season.
“Michal took great strides last season, and continued that progress when he represented his home country as it hosted the World Championship,” executive vice president and general manager Ron Francis said.
“He’s still a young defenseman, and we expect him to continue to improve going forward.”
The 24-year old, six-foot-one-inch blueliner established NHL career highs in games played (38), goals (2), assists (4) and points (6) with Carolina last season.
Defensively, he ranked sixth on the team with 61 blocked shots in 38 games.
As captain of the Charlotte Checkers, Jordan also appeared in 30 games on the American Hockey League (AHL) and posted 11 points (2g, 9a).
Selected by the Hurricanes in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Jordan has totaled six points (2g, 4a) and six penalty minutes in 43 career NHL games.
Overall, he has appeared in 297 career AHL games with Charlotte, totaling 92 points (20g, 72a) and 124 penalty minutes.
Internationally, Jordan has represented the Czech Republic in a number of international competitions, including the 2008, 2009 and 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships, and the 2014 and 2015 IIHF World Championships.
