RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Sunday that forward Patrick Brown was recalled from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
As Brown appeared in two games during Charlotte’s weekend homestand against Grand Rapids, the priority for him was to keep playing according to Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters.
While the rookie made his NHL debut with Carolina on Oct. 10, and averaged 9:37 of ice time while playing in all four of the Hurricanes’ games this season, the team’s current preparation period for a four-game Canadian road swing allowed for him to drive to the Queen City for the affiliate club’s home-opening weekend.
With the Hurricanes coming off a second consecutive shootout loss, a 2-1 decision to the New York Rangers last Thursday, Peters indicated that Brown and Brody Sutter, also a recent call-up, would return to the Checkers to keep their play sharp.
“We worked hard here today,” Peters said.
“I thought we made a good decision as an organization to send two guys down for them to play this weekend at the American League level. I think that’s valuable for them.”
Still faced with injuries to Eric Staal, Patrick Dwyer (IR), Nathan Gerbe, Andrej Sekera, and John-Michael Liles, Carolina made the call to bring the versatile young forward back to fill some of the void that exists in the roster.
In both games with Charlotte, Brown posted two shots on goal, served a minor penalty, and finished with a minus-1 rating overall.
