RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes assigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to the team’s affiliate club, the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Friday.

Murphy has totaled two goals and nine assists (11 points) in 39 NHL games played with Carolina so far this season and has recently been a healthy scratch for the team’s past four games.

He is playing in his first full professional season since being drafted by the Hurricanes in the first round (12th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

With his reassignment, Murphy is eligible to play with Charlotte during the NHL’s upcoming Olympic Break.
