RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Tuesday that defenseman Tyler Ganly was added to Carolina’s roster for the upcoming 2015 NHL Prospects Tournament that will take place Sept. 11-15 in Traverse City, Mich.
Ganly will replace defenseman Noah Hanifin, who is recovering from an injury sustained during USA Hockey’s World Junior Evaluation Camp in August.
Hanifin, Carolina’s top pick (5th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, is expected to attend and participate in the Hurricanes’ training camp in Raleigh, set to begin on-ice sessions on Sept. 18.
The 20-year old Ganly signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Hurricanes on June 1.
He completed the 2014-15 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, posting 16 points (2g, 14a) and a plus-15 rating in 38 games.
Ganly ranked second in the league in plus/minus rating (+14), and ranked second among Greyhounds defensemen with two goals in the 2015 OHL Playoffs.
Selected by the Hurricanes in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, the six-foot-two-inch, 196-pound Ganly earned 65 points (7g, 58a) and totaled 171 penalty minutes in 196 career OHL games played with Sault Ste. Marie.
