DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Blue Devils redshirt junior linebacker Kelby Brown was named the National Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the Walter Camp Football Foundation following the Blue Devils’ 13-10 road win over No. 16 Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Brown registered 14 tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception as Duke defeated a nationally-ranked opponent on the road for the first time since 1971.

With Duke holding on to a 13-10 lead, he recorded the first interception of his career with 4:22 to play and helped to seal Duke’s victory as Virginia Tech was unable to regain possession for the remainder game.

Brown’s play capped off a Blue Devils defensive unit performance that held the Hokies to a season-low matching 10 points by forcing four turnovers, breaking up 10 passes and limiting its offense to a 4-of-18 conversion rate on third downs.

With the win, Duke secured bowl eligibility for the second consecutive season, and currently sits with a 6-2 record overall and is tied for fourth place (2-2) in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Coastal division standings.

Riding a four-game win streak, the Blue Devils have a bye week to prepare for their next ACC game when they host Triangle foe the NC State Wolfpack at Wallace Wade Stadium on Sat., Nov. 9.
