Tar Heels’ DeShields named ACC Rookie of the Week

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the third time this season North Carolina Tar Heels guard Diamond DeShields was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week (ROW), as announced by the conference on Monday.

DeShields scored 19 points with eight rebounds and three steals in No. 6 North Carolina’s 83-65 victory at Wake Forest last Thursday in the only game that the Tar Heels played in the past week.

She leads all freshmen in ACC games averaging 19 points per game and ranks third among all rookies with six rebounds per game.

DeShields’ earned ROW honors previously this season on Dec. 2 and Jan. 13, and currently leads her team in scoring – averaging 16 points and two steals per game.

She leads the Tar Heels in hosting two games this week at Carmichael Arena, beginning with the Syracuse Orange on Thursday followed by the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday.
