RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Monday that the team had signed defenseman Tyler Ganly to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The deal will pay Ganly $575,000 in 2015-16 and 2016-17, and $650,000 in 2017-18 at the NHL level.

In the American Hockey League (AHL), he would earn $60,000 per year.

The contract also includes a signing bonus of $120,000.

“Tyler had a good season despite missing significant time due to injury,” Hurricanes executive vice president and general manager Ron Francis said.

“He was especially good in the playoffs and was a big part of his team making the OHL’s Western Conference finals.”

Ganly completed the 2014-15 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, posting 16 points (2g, 14a) and a plus-15 rating in 38 games.

The Milton, Ontario native ranked second in the league with a plus-14 plus/minus rating, and ranked second among Greyhounds defensemen with two goals in the 2015 OHL Playoffs.

Selected by the Hurricanes in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Ganly has earned 65 points (7g, 58a) and totaled 171 penalty minutes in 196 career OHL games played with Sault Ste. Marie.

Prior to his major-junior career, Ganly played one season with the Brampton Capitals and one season with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, both of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
