Duke men’s lacrosse earns preseason No. 1 in 2018 Face-Off Yearbook

DURHAM, N.C.The Duke Blue Devils were selected as the 2018 preseason No. 1 team according to Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Top 25 poll released on Wednesday.

Following a 13-5 finish to the 2017 season that included an NCAA quarterfinal appearance, the Blue Devils return an experienced and talented offensive group, and a defensive corps that will be backstopped by All-ACC and All-American fifth-year senior goalkeeper Danny Fowler and All-American long-stick Cade Van Raaphorst.

USILA All-America second team selection Justin Guterding will lead the Duke attack after finishing 2017 with 97 points (56 goals, 41 assists).

The senior attackman will have junior All-America midfielder Brad Smith (20 goals, 19 assists) supporting an offense that will include talented sophomores Joey Manown, Kevin Quigley, and Reilly Walsh, as well as a strong incoming freshman class.

Duke opens the season against Air Force at Koskinen Stadium on Feb. 3.
