RALEIGH, NC – On to the next as they say – in this case, the next round of the 2023 NHL Playoffs that took place at PNC Arena on Wednesday.

The Carolina Hurricanes made an emphatic entrance into Round Two with a 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils led by five different scorers.

Piling on

Brett Pesce, Seth Jarvis, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Brady Skjei, and Jesper Fast slid pucks across the goal line against both Devils netminders in Akira Schmid and Vitek Vanecek.

At the other end, Hurricanes starter Frederik Andersen allowed only one goal on a breakaway finish from New Jersey forward Nathan Bastian.

A 17-save performance that put him at the top of the goalkeepers list following Game 1.

The Hurricanes offensive production was up to par with the other series Game 1 winners in action as Vegas posted the highest output in a 6-4 win over Edmonton late Wednesday.

A day earlier, Florida topped Toronto 4-2 before Seattle’s 5-4 OT finish over Dallas gave them each a 1-0 series lead on Tuesday.

Just so you know

Jarvis’ goal was the sixth postseason goal of his NHL career and first playoff game winner.

He became the third player in franchise history with six postseason goals before age 22, following Eric Staal and Andrei Svechnikov.
