ACC football legends honored including Duke’s Chesson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) held its Night of Legends at the Charlotte Convention Center on Friday.

The event featured every conference school having a ‘legend’ recognized as well as featuring the presentation of the 2013 season’s individual award winners.

The group of 15 former gridiron standouts included a former ACC Football Player of the Year; 10 former All-Americans including six first-team All-America honorees; and included 12 of them who were National Football League (NFL) first of second-round draft choices with a total of 97 years of pro football experience combined.

Wes Chesson was the Duke Blue Devils’ legend honored, who as a half-back and end finished his career with nine 100-yard receiving games, at the time the most in ACC history.

Chesson was a record-setting receiver for the Duke teams of 1968, 1969 and 1970 for Coach Tom Harp and earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in 1970 after setting ACC single-season records with 74 pass receptions for 1,080 yards.

Selected in the seventh round of the 1971 NFL Draft, he played four seasons in the NFL, two each with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles.
