The Carolina Hurricanes prospect squad held off the opposing New York Rangers prospects to record a 4-3 win in their first game in the 2013 Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament played at Centre I.C.E Arena in Traverse City, Mich. on Thursday.

With the team’s 2013 top draft pick, Elias Lindholm, out of the lineup and still recovering from a shoulder injury (bruise) he suffered during camp in July, the Hurricanes were led on the score sheet by Victor Rask, Sergey Tolchinsky, Zack Mitchell, and Brock McGinn who scored the eventual game-winning goal.

Goaltender Daniel Altshuller recorded 36 saves to record the win.

After day one of the three-day competition, the Hurricanes sit atop the tournament’s Ted Lindsay Division tied with the Buffalo Sabres prospects who beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Thursday.

Carolina will face Columbus on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
