RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State Wolfpack women’s basketball team gave their fans a big gift for the holidays as they beat the 12th-ranked LSU Tigers 89-79 in front of a crowd of 2,025 at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday.

The team’s first win over a ranked opponent with new head coach Wes Moore at the helm pushed NC State’s overall record to 11-1, and extended the team’s current win streak to five games as part of the program’s best start in 14 years.

Forwards Markeisha Gatling (25 points, 8 rebounds) and Kody Burke (25 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), along with guard Len’Nique Brown (17 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds) led the Wolfpack’s offense that was based on a 53-percent shooting performance from the field along with 19 total team assists.

While the Tigers’ 62-percent shooting from beyond the arc (8-13) kept them close to the Wolfpack, an all-around effort that included 40 points scored in the paint coupled with 6-of-22 three-point shooting was enough to secure the benchmark win for NC State.

Notes: Former Wolfpack star and alumna Marissa Kastanek was in the crowd cheering her alma mater on as it posted its biggest win of the season to date.
