RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State Wolfpack women’s basketball team won its season and home-opener defeating the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 70-47 at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday.

Myisha Goodwin-Coleman (11 points, 2 assists), Kody Burke (11 points, 4 rebounds), and Miah Spencer (11 points, 4 rebounds) led the Wolfpack offense which included a strong rebounding performance at both ends of the court from Jennifer Mathurin who finished with a team-high seven boards.

NC State’s perimeter game included Coleman and Ashley Williams leading with three treys apiece as the team finished with a 32 percent performance shooting from beyond the arc.

Leading 37-21 at halftime, NC State went on a 21-0 run during the early part of the second half that effectively put the Bonnies out of seriously contending for the remainder of the game.

The closest St. Bonaventure got was tying the score 7-7 early in the game but the Wolfpack put together  various scoring runs throughout the game that put them ahead by as many as 40 points with 8:19 to play in the game.

After earning his first win leading NC State, head coach Wes Moore described his team’s performance by making reference to an old Western movie, the Good, the Bad , and  the Ugly.

“The first 10 minutes was bad, but during the second 10 minutes of the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second half, I thought we did some good things,” Moore said.

“The last 10 minutes or so, I thought were ugly. I thought we covered all the bases. Our effort was good.”
