Duryea named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea garnered Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Defensive Player of the Week honors after guiding the eighth-ranked Duke Blue Devils to a pair of wins last weekend, as announced on Tuesday by the conference office.

Anchoring the Blue Devils in goal, Duryea posted a season-high nine saves against 20 shots by Navy in a 10-3 Duke victory at Koskinen Stadium on Sunday.

The netminder from Beverly, Mass., made four early saves before the Blue Devils scored their first goal of the contest.

She also recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Mids as the defensive unit held its opponent to a season-low three scores.

In a 17-4 win over Richmond on Friday, Duryea made three stops and added a ground ball.

Duryea currently paces the ACC in goals against average at 4.64 and ranks third in the league in save percentage (.536).

She previously was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week three times as a freshman during the 2013 campaign.

Harney tabbed Inside Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s Kyra Harney was named the Inside Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on Tuesday following a four-point performance in a 10-3 victory over Navy last weekend.

Leading by just one at the half, the Blue Devils outscored the Mids 8-2 in the second period.

Harney notched three goals and an assist during that span to collect the first hat trick of her collegiate career and helped Duke improve to 3-0 on the season.

Harney also accounted for three ground balls and two turnovers in the win.

She added an assist last Friday in a 17-4 defeat of Richmond to give her seven points (5 goals, 2 assist) for her young career.
