Salvadores leads Spain into FIBA U18 championship

CELJE, SLOVENIA – Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball incoming freshman Angela Salvadores helped Spain advance to the FIBA U18 European Championship on Saturday with a 66-56 victory over Italy.

While Spain held a 32-28 lead at the half, Italy took a 36-34 lead midway through the third quarter before Spain regained the lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Salvadores, who totaled 18 points, four rebounds and one steal in 37 minutes, helped Spain finish the game on a 16-6 run to advance to the tournament final.

Spain will face Russia in the gold medal game at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Celine Boutier to compete in U.S. Amateur

DURHAM, N.C. — After winning the Ladies’ British Open Amateur earlier this summer, Duke Blue Devils senior Celine Boutier is setting her sights on winning the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Boutier is aspiring to claim the title alongside former Duke golfers Virada Nirapathpongporn (2003) and Amanda Blumenherst (2008) who each won in 2003 and 2008 respectively.

A 2014 WGCA National Player of the Year and back-to-back WGCA First Team All-America, Boutier currently sits No. 11 overall in the world amateur rankings.

Her entry in the U.S. Amateur field adds to her list of tournaments competed in this summer which include the Ladies’ British Open Amateur, Vagliano Trophy, U.S. Women’s Open and the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Boutier begins play in the prestigious United States Golf Association (USGA) event from Aug. 10-16 at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore.
