Duke Blue Devils – Women’s Basketball

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – Three players netted double-doubles to pace the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils past the Alabama Crimson Tide 90-40 in the season-opener on Sunday.

Senior Elizabeth Williams, redshirt freshman Rebecca Greenwell and sophomore Oderah Chidom each posted 17 points to lead the Blue Devils.

Williams collected her 20th career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Greenwell had 17 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Azura Stevens had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

UNC Tar Heels – Women’s Basketball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina Tar Heels guard Allisha Gray scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures as the No. 13 Tar Heels picked up an 84-68 victory over 23rd-ranked UCLA Sunday afternoon in Carmichael Arena.

Along with Gray’s 19-point, six-rebound effort, North Carolina (2-0) received 17 points from Brittany Rountree, 16 points and eight boards from Xylina McDaniel and 10 each from reserve guards Jamie Cherry and Jessica Washington.

Nirra Fields paced UCLA (0-2) with 21 points on an 8-of-24 shooting performance.

“I enjoyed playing this game because UCLA is a great team,” Tar Heels head coach Sylvia Hatchell said.

“They are very, very talented. I’ve known their coach for a long time and I knew she was going to do a great job. Of course they had the No. 1 recruiting class last year that are now freshman, so they’re very talented and going to get better and better and better. But I thought that we did a good job. We got into some foul trouble early, but I’ve said all along, this year our strength is our leadership, our balance, our depth, and, of course, the skill level.”
