NEW YORK, N.Y. – Carolina RailHawks striker Zack Schilawski earned North American Soccer League (NASL) Player of the Week honors as announced by the league on Monday for a three-point (2g, 1a) performance in a recent 4-1 home victory over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Schilawski scored his second and third goals of the season in the 40th and 76th minutes respectively in the game played on Saturday.

“He does everything you ask of him and it was great to see him get his goals,” said RailHawks coach Colin Clarke.

“He worked his socks off for 90 minutes.”

Schilawski, who has been charged with filling the boots of departed top scorer from last season Brian Shriver, said: “I feel good about it. It was a really good team effort for 90 minutes and we controlled the tempo and controlled the game.

“I just put myself in a position to score and hopefully have the composure to score and so far so good.  The guys have stepped up and not only as an attacking side but also doing things defensively as well.”

Prior to joining his hometown RailHawks, where he is now in his third season, Schilawski spent two years with the New England Revolution, having been selected ninth in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft and made 50 appearances during two seasons that included 28 starts.

Schilawski played his college soccer at Wake Forest, where he made a school-record 99 appearances, including leading the Demon Deacons to the 2007 NCAA Championship with the winning shootout penalty kick.
