HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Carolina RailHawks earned an important road win with a 1-0 decision over the New York Cosmos at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday.

The win was the RailHawks’ (2-0-3, 6pts) first road victory in 2014 and first ever against the Cosmos (1-1-2, 4pts) on their home pitch.

Ty Shipalane’s lone marker in the 38th minute, his third goal of the season, was enough to give Carolina the win and a valuable three points in the North American Soccer League (NASL) standings.

The win pushed the RailHawks past the Cosmos on the table, and it was Shipalane who did the damage again as he also scored the winner in the two teams’ last matchup in Raleigh during the Spring Season.

Goalkeeper Scott Goodwin, along with the help of his back line, posted a second consecutive shutout to put the team into fourth place.

“Tonight, I can’t be more proud of my boys and the effort they put in,” RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke said.

“We’ve been good on the road, but just couldn’t get the first goal. We got an exceptional goal from Shipalane, and we had the better chances in the first half and second half.”
