RALEIGH, N.C. – For the second time this season, Carolina RailHawks goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald was named NASL Player of the Week as announced by the league earlier this week.

Fitzgerald earned his second consecutive shutout and held Spring Season leaders Minnesota United FC to a scoreless draw on the road last Saturday.

“I’m honored to be named Player of the Week, but it was really a complete team performance,” said Fitzgerald.

“Our center backs had countless blocks, outside backs were blocking crosses and the midfield did a great job of being compact when we needed them to.  It was a good result on the road and something to build on.”

RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke praised Fitzgerald for his performance: “He was very, very good and came up with some big saves when we needed him to. He’s been good all year. It’s not a one off performance and he certainly deserves the credit and recognition.”

Currently sitting in fifth place in the NASL standings, Fitzgerald and the RailHawks will seek to extend their current 20-game unbeaten streak at home against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at WakeMed Soccer Park at on Saturday.
