RALEIGH, N.C. – The N.C. State Wolfpack is headed into postseason play, receiving a spot in the upcoming 2015 Women’s National Invitation Tournament, as announced by tournament organizers on Monday.
The Wolfpack will play a postseason game for the fourth straight season and second under head coach Wes Moore.
In first-round play that begins Wednesday, the Wolfpack (RPI 82) with a 16-14 overall record, will play at East Tennessee State (RPI 109) on Thursday, with tipoff time announced on Tuesday.
ETSU posted a 21-11 record during the 2014-15 season.
The Buccaneers advanced to the SoCon championship game before falling to UT-Chattanooga in overtime by a final score of 61-56.
ETSU is the 18th best shooting team in the country hitting at a success rate of 45 percent from the field.
“We have a young team, so we felt like the extra practice time and the extra game experience would be good for these kids,” Moore said.
“Obviously, Len’Nique Brown has been a big part of this program and, being a senior, we weighed heavily on her thoughts and she wanted to keep playing. That’s a testament to these kids and how much they love competing. It’s going to be a tough road because we will have to go on the road and play a very good team. It will be a challenge, but any experience these young kids can get will be good and in the future we plan on being in the NCAA Tournament.”
Though sitting as the higher RPI-rated team, due to current construction work that started Mar. 1 in its home building, Reynolds Coliseum, the Wolfpack will play the entire postseason on the road.
