A look back: Wolfpack tops Georgia Tech, 65-64

ATLANTA, GA. – The NC State Wolfpack picked up its second straight league win, beating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 65-64 at McCamish Pavilion on Thursday.

Len’Nique Brown hit the game-winning free throw with 1.4 seconds remaining that made the difference as the Yellow Jackets’ Aaliyah Whiteside’s final shot attempt from halfcourt hit the backboard, but didn’t fall.

Miah Spencer, a Georgia native, led the way offensively, scoring a game-high 25 points and tied a career high while collecting a team-high eight rebounds.

Dominique Wilson, also from Georgia, posted 14 points, while Jennifer Mathurin added 11 points for he Wolfpack

Roddreka Rogers (12 points, 12 rebounds), Katarina Vuckovic (11 points, 12 rebounds), and Ziare O’Neil (17 points, 11 rebounds) led the Georgia Tech offense.

Even while the Yellow Jackets (14-11, 4-7) outshot and outrebounded NC State (14-10, 5-6) by a 53-36 margin, the Wolfpack took advantage of 17 Georgia Tech turnovers to score valuable points.

Despite shooting 27-percent during the first half, a seven-plus minute scoreless stretch for Georgia Tech, gave NC State a 27-24 lead at halftime.

The Wolfpack extended its lead to as many as 12 points, but the Yellow Jackets eventually caught up, tying the game 60-60 with 2:42 to play.

The teams traded the lead twice before Brown sank the first of two free throws that claimed the 65-64 win.

NC State continues its current road trip, traveling to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to face Boston College on Sunday.
