Hurricanes split weekend games at Traverse City NHL Prospect tournament

TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. – The Carolina Hurricanes came out with a win and a loss at the 2014 NHL Prospect Tournament at Center I.C.E. Arena over the weekend.

Carolina fired on all cylinders and recorded a 6-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres prospects on Friday, but fell 4-2 to the Dallas Stars’ up-and-comers on Saturday.

According to tournament website statistics reports, forward Victor Rask is currently leading the team with two goals and two assists, and sits tied for second overall in tournament scoring following the opening two-game stint.

Sergey Tolchinsky, last year’s tournament scoring leader, and Alex Aleardi currently sit behind Rask with a goal and two assists apiece.

Special teams statistics are also being tracked and posted and show the Hurricanes man-advantage in a very positive light, sitting atop all eight competing teams – scoring four power play goals on nine opportunities (44%) afforded thus far.

On the penalty kill, Carolina is tied for second, allowing one goal in eight man-down situations (87.5%).

The Hurricanes have provided more detailed and in-depth online coverage for each game of the prospect squad’s progress in the tournament for the first time compared to years past, and is all available on the team’s website.

Carolina (1-1) will complete round-robin play in the Lindsay Division against the New York Rangers (1-0-1) on Monday, and will then be re-seeded amongst all teams to determine what place they will compete for overall on Tuesday.
