RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes agreed to terms with forward Justin Shugg on a one-year, two-way contract as announced by the team on Sunday.

The deal will pay Shugg $600,000 at the NHL level, or $85,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level in 2015-16, with a guarantee of $100,000.

“Justin provides our organization with good depth at forward,” executive vice president and general manager Ron Francis said.

“He led Charlotte in scoring last season and has improved his offensive production each year since turning pro.”

Carolina’s fourth-round pick (105th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, made his NHL debut with Carolina on Dec. 16 at Montreal, and played in three games with the Hurricanes in 2014-15.

Shugg, 23, led the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate team, the Charlotte Checkers, last season in goals (21) and points (43), and tied his AHL career best with 22 assists in 65 regular-season games.

Overall, the five-foot-11-inch, 185-pound forward has scored 49 goals and earned 66 assists (115 points) in 212 AHL regular-season games with Charlotte since turning pro in 2011-12.
