Hurricanes reduce camp roster to 25

Carolina_Hurricanes_Training_Camp_PucksRALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Thursday that the team had cut 10 players from its training camp roster, leaving 25 remaining.

The team also announced that center Jordan Staal, who is out for three to four months with a broken leg, had been placed on injured reserve.

“Nice number – one group – good tempo, ” Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters said following the team’s morning practice.

“I like the number we’re at right now, and now we’ll continue to watch.”

Forwards Phil Di Giuseppe, Brock McGinn, Carter Sandlak, Brody Sutter and Brendan Woods, as well as defenseman Danny Biega, were to join the Charlotte Checkers’ training camp immediately.

Goaltender Drew MacIntyre and defensemen Michal Jordan and Rasmus Rissanen would also join Charlotte’s camp pending clearing waivers.

Defenseman Haydn Fleury, the team’s 2014 first-round (7th overall) draft pick, was assigned to join his junior club, the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
