Hurricanes prospects to begin NHL apprenticeship at Development Camp

RALEIGH, N.C. – A new class of National Hockey League (NHL) prospects will begin their apprenticeships in becoming pro hockey players in the Carolina Hurricanes organization on Monday.

The team has invited 29 players to this year’s camp that will introduce them to various on and off-ice personnel who will guide them through educational and active sessions to help prepare them for the week, upcoming season, and what to expect further down the road in their careers.

Eight of Carolina’s nine selections in the 2015 NHL Draft – Noah Hanifin (5th overall), Sebastian Aho (35th overall), Callum Booth (93rd overall), Nicolas Roy (96th overall), Luke Stevens (126th overall), Spencer Smallman (138th overall), Jake Massie (156th overall) and Steven Lorentz (186th overall) – will make their first appearances in Raleigh as members of the Hurricanes organization.

Other notable Hurricanes prospects attending the camp include Haydn Fleury (1st round, 2014), Brett Pesce (3rd round, 2013), Roland McKeown (acquired from LA via trade), Rasmus Tirronen (free agent signing) and Sergey Tolchinsky (free agent signing).

On-ice sessions will be conducted by head coach Bill Peters and his staff as well as the coaching staff of the Charlotte Checkers that includes newly hired head coach Mark Morris.

The camp’s evening on-ice sessions will be open to fans to attend at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday (July 7), Wednesday (July 8) and Friday (July 10).

The week will be capped off with the camp’s on-ice session at Noon on Saturday (July 11) as part of the Hurricanes’ Summerfest Celebration held at PNC Arena.

The Summerfest Celebration begins at 10 a.m. and along with the Prospect Camp’s final on-ice session, the family-friendly event features an autograph session with the camp’s participants, an equipment sale, and a State of the Hurricanes discussion.

Parking and admission for the Summerfest Celebration, are free, and the entire event will be held inside the arena.
