RALEIGH, N.C. – Hockey Canada announced on Thursday that Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters was named to Team Canada’s coaching staff for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey that will take place in Toronto from Sept. 17-Oct. 1, 2016.

Peters, 50, is in his second season as head coach of the Hurricanes, and will serve as an assistant under his former bench boss Mike Babcock.

He spent three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings coaching alongside Babcock, who is currently the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Following the end of the regular season last year, Peters served as an assistant coach and was part of a Team Canada squad that captured gold at the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship in the Czech Republic.

Peters’ international coaching resume also includes winning a gold medal in 2008 as head coach of Team Canada’s medal-winning squad at the IIHF U-18 Junior World Cup.
