RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced the reassignment of nine players from its training camp roster to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Saturday.

The team also announced that forward Chad LaRose was added to the training camp roster on a professional tryout, leaving the remaining number vying for spots at 36.

Defensemen Trevor Carrick, Dennis Robertson and Keegan Lowe, along with goaltender Daniel Altshuller were assigned directly to the Checkers, while forwards Ben Holmstrom, Justin Shugg, Greg Nemisz and Jared Staal would be assigned to Charlotte pending waivers.

Forward Kyle Hagel, who has an AHL contract with Charlotte, was also released from the Hurricanes’ camp.

LaRose totaled 180 points (85g, 95a) and 286 penalty minutes in 508 career NHL games played with Carolina between the 2005-06 and 2012-13 seasons.

He did not play professional hockey last season, but signed an AHL contract with Charlotte back in late July.
