Hurricanes assign Lindholm to play for Sweden

RALEIGH, N.C. – Carolina Hurricanes rookie forward Elias Lindholm will play for his country in the upcoming 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship (WJC) tournament that will be played in Malmo, Sweden from Dec. 26-Jan. 5.

The Hurricanes announced on Wednesday that they would assign Lindholm, 19, to play for the Swedish U-20 national team which he will join on Sunday in preparation for the upcoming competition.

Lindholm has totaled seven points (3g, 4a) in 21 games played during his first NHL season with the Hurricanes.

This year’s WJC tournament marks the second consecutive year the Boden, Sweden, native will represent his country after capturing a silver medal with Sweden at the event last year.

Lindholm also won silver with Sweden at the 2012 U-18 World Junior Championship.
