Duke WBB grads Johnson, Williams sign pro contracts to play overseas

DURHAM, N.C. – A pair of recent Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball graduates, Ka’lia Johnson and Elizabeth Williams, recently signed professional contracts to play overseas this fall, according to a release put out by Duke Sports Information on Wednesday.

Johnson, a native of Chester, Va., will play for BLK Slavia in Czech Republic, which is coming off a 10-12 record a year ago.

The five-foot-ten-inch guard started 32-of-34 contests as a senior at Duke and averaged 7.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals.

She accumulated a team-high 126 assists as a senior and closed her career playing in 123 games for the Blue Devils.

Currently playing for the Connecticut Sun, Williams has signed to play for Turkish Club Istanbul University following her rookie season which she recently begun in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Istanbul University posted a 17-9 overall record in the Turkish Basketball League this past year.

Williams, who hails from Virginia Beach, Va., was the fourth pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft after a standout career at Duke.

The first four-time Associated Press All-America in Duke school history, Williams also earned WBCA National Defensive Player of the Year and WBCA All-America honors along with numerous other accolades as a senior.

She averaged 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest, tallied a career-best 10 double-doubles and her 2.5 assists per game led all centers nationally.
