Duke forward Stevens named ACC Rookie of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – For the second time this season, Duke Blue Devils freshman Azurá Stevens was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week, as announced following a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Monday.

Stevens, who is a native of Raleigh, N.C., averaged 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block while leading 11th-ranked Duke to ACC wins over No. 8 Louisville, Wake Forest and Clemson.

The six-foot-five-inch standout forward hit 57 percent of her field goals and 50 percent from downtown in the three wins.

Against eighth-ranked Louisville, Stevens totaled 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in 37 minutes.

Stevens backed that up by tying a career high with 24 points at Wake Forest along with six rebounds and two steals.

She also tied a career high at Wake Forest with two three-pointers made in the first half.

To close the week, she had 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.

With her 182 rebounds, Stevens ranks sixth on the Duke single-season freshman rebound list.

She also received ACC Rookie of the Week accolades Dec. 22.

Also earning ACC Co-Player of the Week honors on Monday were Wake Forest’s Dearica Hamby and Florida State’s Adut Bulgak.

Duke will kick off a four-game road swing beginning Thursday as the Blue Devils travel to Charlottesville, Va., to face Virginia.
