DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe announced on Saturday the naming of Anthony Boone, Ross Cockrell, Justin Foxx and Dave Harding as team captains for the 2013 season as elected by their teammates.

Boone, a redshirt junior quarterback from Weddington, N.C., is slated to start under center for the Blue Devils, taking the reins from three-year starter Sean Renfree, a two-time team captain who was selected in the seventh round by the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons this past spring.

In 22 career games, Boone has completed 79-of-148 (.534) passes for 829 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing for an additional 211 yards and six touchdowns.

Cockrell, a redshirt senior cornerback from Waxhaw, N.C., will serve as a team captain for the second consecutive season.

A consensus preseason first team All-ACC choice heading into his final season as a Blue Devil, Cockrell has appeared in and started 36 games while recording 187 tackles, 29 pass breakups and nine interceptions.

Last year, he earned first team All-ACC and honorable mention All-America honors after leading the ACC in interceptions with five.

Foxx, a redshirt senior defensive end from Charlotte, N.C., has played in 31 career games with 16 starting assignments while amassing totals of 98 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 quarterback sacks.

In 2012, he was named Duke’s Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman after posting 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks despite missing four games due to injury.

Harding, a redshirt senior offensive guard from Orlando, Fla., enters the 2013 season having played in 36 career games with 27 starts at both center and guard.

He was an honorable mention All-ACC choice last fall after helping Duke score a school single-season record 410 points as the Blue Devils ranked second in the league in fewest sacks allowed per passing attempt.

Duke opens the season this coming Saturday, kicking off against the NC Central Eagles at 4 p.m. in Wallace Wade Stadium.
