CARY, N.C. – Past tournament champion Russ Cochran posted another 6-under-par 66 during the second round of play at the SAS Championship taking place at Prestonwood Country Club on Saturday.

Cochran is no stranger to leading an event early on, having owned sole possession of the lead two times heading into the final round in his Champions Tour career, and one of those ended with him winning the SAS title in 2010.

In the other event, Cochran finished T4 at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.

He finds himself holding a two-stroke lead on the trio of Kirk Triplett, David Frost and defending champion Bernhard Langer heading into Sunday’s final round of play.

After closing with a 7-under-par 30 on his back nine on Friday, Cochran got off to a blazing start on the front nine on Saturday.

He birdied five of his first six holes to open up a lead of as much as three strokes, but a bogey at No. 7 slowed his momentum slightly, being his only blemish on the day.

He’ll go for his second win of the season on Sunday and the fifth of his Champions Tour career when he tees off at 11:35 a.m. with Langer and Triplett by his side.
