Tolchinsky finishes as tournament scoring leader

TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. – The Carolina Hurricanes started the 2013 NHL Prospects Tournament held at Center I.C.E. Arena with a win, but ended it with three consecutive losses and finished in sixth place overall out of the eight teams competing at the event.

After taking a 3-0 lead on the St. Louis Blues, the Hurricanes were caught reeling as their opponents filled the net with eight unanswered goals, and handed them an 8-3 loss on Monday.

The Hurricanes finished with a 1-3 record overall while the host Detroit Red Wings captured their first tournament title with a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Forward Sergey Tolchinsky shone the lone bright spot on Carolina’s final game as he tallied two goals in the losing effort and ended up as the tournament’s leading scorer finishing with five goals and three assists over four games played.
