RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes recalled rookie forward Elias Lindholm on Wednesday.

Lindholm had been assigned to the Swedish team for the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship that recently concluded in Malmo, Sweden.

With Lindholm returning, the team assigned forward Aaron Palushaj to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) in order to make room for him on the roster.

The 19-year-old scored two goals and added seven assists (9 points) in six games played for his home country during the tournament, helping Sweden capture the silver medal for the second consecutive year.

From Boden, Sweden, Lindholm’s scoring performance ranked second among Swedish skaters in assists (7) and points (9), behind only tournament most valuable player Filip Forsberg.

With their next game coming up against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday at PNC Arena, the Hurricanes hope to take advantage of Lindholm’s potential to contribute offensively as the team seeks to build upon its current four-game win streak.

Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller indicated that he’ll determine how Lindholm’s wear from traveling back to Raleigh is and assess his readiness to play after the morning skate.

“When you do that many time zones and flying back and try to get your legs again, it’s not easy to play in a professional sporting event, let alone the average person flying back and forth (like that). We gotta’ know that he’s ready to go mentally and physically.”
