Ruutu placed on injured reserve, Terry waived

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes continued to stay busy in adjusting the team’s roster in preparation for its upcoming 2013-2014 NHL season-opener against the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 4 at PNC Arena.

After making a trade earlier on Sunday that sent forwards Zac Dalpe and Jeremy Welsh to the Vancouver Canucks for forward Kellan Tochkin and a fourth round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, the team made two more moves later in the day.

Carolina first assigned forward Chris Terry to its American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate club, the Charlotte Checkers, pending the him clearing waivers by Monday at Noon.

After head coach Kirk Muller put the team through an energetic mid-afternoon practice, the Hurricanes soon after announced that forward Tuomo Ruutu had been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Sept. 21.

Ruutu missed the final two games of Carolina’s exhibition schedule with a lower-body injury which according to the team is not related to the hip injury he had suffered last season.

With the team’s lineup still shaping itself as injuries to Alexander Semin, Jeff Skinner, Elias Lindholm, and Tim Gleason are still keeping them from practicing regularly, it is hoped that their day-to-day recovery status may have them ready sooner than later, and possibly for the home-opener against the Red Wings on Friday.
