CHAPEL HILL/DURHAM, N.C. – Two of the Atlantic Coast Conference‘s (ACC) notable women’s basketball programs announced recent transfer news and signings.

The North Carolina Tar Heels announced on Tuesday that guard Allisha Gray was provided her release to speak with other schools about the possibility of transferring.

“I love Allisha Gray and all the wonderful things she brings to our program,” UNC head coach Sylvia Hatchell said.

“My hope is that she makes a decision that is best for her and her family. She is a wonderful young lady and it’s been a privilege these past two years to coach her and hope to continue to do that in the future.”

Gray averaged 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in her sophomore season in 2014-15.

Further down Tobacco Road, the Duke Blue Devils announced on Monday that junior guard Lexie Brown would join the team as a transfer from Maryland.

Brown will sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2016-17 season.

“Lexie is an incredible student-athlete,” commented Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie.

“She is highly motivated to pursue academics and basketball at the highest level in the ACC. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Duke family.”

A five-foot-nine-inch guard from Suwanee, Ga., Brown played the last two seasons for the Terrapins where she was a 2015 Associated Press Third Team All-America, All-Big Ten First Team, All-Big Ten Defensive Team, and Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a sophomore.

She hit a combined 120 three-pointers in two years, while averaging 11.8 points a game at Maryland.

Brown averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals, dropped 69 three-pointers in 36 games, and averaged 31.6 minutes while helping to guide Maryland to a second straight NCAA Final Four appearance.

As a freshman, Brown averaged 10.1 points, 4.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals while starting 30-of-34 games, and eventually earned All-ACC Freshman Team and NCAA Tournament All-Region honors in addition to being named a Naismith and Wooden Award candidate for National Player of the Year.

Brown is a two-time Nancy Lieberman Award watch list selection, a 2015 Academic All-Big Ten and 2014 All-ACC Academic Team honoree.
