2015 SAS Championship: Pro-Am Day One recap

CARY, N.C. – The first day of the 2015 SAS Championship Pro-Am tournament took place at Prestonwood Country Club on Wednesday.

The competition, comprised of teams of Champions Tour professionals and tournament sponsors, precedes championship tournament play which begins on Friday and continues through Sunday.

Scot Parel’s group claimed first place in the morning event, followed close behind by groups led by fellow Tour pros Skip Kendall and Stephen Ames, respectively.

In the afternoon, Rod Spittle’s foursome edged out Joey Sindelar’s group in a playoff for top spot.

Roger Chapman’s foursome came in third, just a stroke behind.

Day Two of Pro-Am play will continue on Thursday with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

Notables playing in the morning field include Colin Montgomerie (Tee 1A), Tom Kite (Tee 1B), Fred Funk (Tee 9), Bernhard Langer (Tee 10A), Tom Pernice Jr. (Tee 11B), and Tom Lehman (Tee 18).

In the afternoon, featured groups include those led by Kirk Triplett (Tee 1A), Marco Dawson (Tee 5), Sandy Lyle (Tee 9), Hale Irwin (Tee 10A), Kenny Perry (Tee 10B), Jeff Maggert (Tee 18A), and Russ Cochran (Tee 17B).
