DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Blue Devils sophomore golfer Celine Boutier received the Honda Award for women’s golf as announced on Monday.

Boutier’s win was the sixth in school history for the Blue Devils program led by head coach Dan Brooks.

The Honda Sports Award is presented annually by the College Womens Sports Award (CWSA) to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.

With the honor, Boutier became a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2014 Honda Cup.

“It is an honor to be selected as the winner of the prestigious Honda Award for golf,” Boutier said.

“There have been many outstanding golfers who have won this award over the years and to have my name on the same list as them is very special. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for all their support during this amazing season as this would not be possible without them.”

A native of Montrouge, France, Boutier was recently named the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) National Player of the Year and earned a WGCA First Team All-America honor as well.

“I was excited to see that Celine had won the Honda Award,” Brooks said.

“She had a great season, particularly the final, spring tournaments. I was happy the committee recognized the importance of finishing strong.”

In addition to leading her team as ACC Player of the Year during a season in which she posted three wins with a 70.77 stroke average in seven tournaments and a 616-37 head-to-head record, Boutier also qualified for the upcoming 2014 U.S. Women’s Open that will take place next week at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.

After qualifying for the upcoming USGA championship to be played on Course No. 2 in mid-May, Boutier helped to lead Duke two weeks later to its sixth overall NCAA Championship in women’s golf and placed second individually at the tournament.

Boutier joined former Blue Devils Candy Hannemann (2000-01), Virada Nirapathpongporn (2001-02), Anna Grzebien (2004-05) and Amanda Blumenherst (2006-07 & 2007-08) as previous winners of the award.

The Honda Cup winner will be announced during the live telecast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards show presented by Honda on Mon., June 30 at the USC Founders Club at Galen Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
